The Housing and Development Board (HDB) started in 1st February 1960, when there was a housing crisis in Singapore. During that time, people were living in unhygienic slums and environment. The task of HDB was to solve the housing crisis.
The HDB took less than 3 years to build 21,000 flats and 2 years later they completed 54,000 flats. In a period of 10 years HDB has constructed sufficient flats for Singaporeans and has resolved the housing crisis.
HDB has completed more than 1 million flats for the nation and 80{de0e4501071ae0b411c87217c3f6849166122424f7450941318fe0f4f9cfe806} of Singapore’s population live in them. HDB will continue to explore new methods, designs and technologies to build better homes for Singaporeans.
