In 2000 Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was launched. It is a non-profit organization that donates money to fight diseases, poverty and inequity in the world. Below are some of the many contributions they have made:
1. In 2000 Gavi was founded by Bill and Melinda Gates foundation a company that provides various vaccines to developing countries including covid-19 vaccines. The foundation pledged $750 million to support Gavi for 5 years.
2. In 2002 the foundation pledged $100 million to the Global Fund to fight against life threatening diseases like Aids, Tuberculous and Malaria. Thanks to the Global Funds it have saved 38 million lives.
3. In 2017 the foundation pledged $300 million over a span of 3 years to support farmers in Africa and Asia to better adapt with the climate change, including rising temperatures and extreme weather patterns.
4. In 2017 the foundation launched a non profit medical research institute to fight against diseases by speeding up discoveries into medical products.
5. In 2020 the foundation committed a total of $1.75 billion to the covid-19 pandemic to speed up development and distribution of Covid-19 tests and treatments.
